Jane Austen

Jane Austen is a famous English novelist who lived from 1775 to 1817.  She wrote romantic fiction and is most known for novels Sense and Sensibility, Pride and Prejudice, Emma and Mansfield Park. All of her books were set among the English middle and upper classes and are notable for their wit and social observations.  Her books give insights into the lives of early 19th century women, and are still very popular today.

She was brought up in a close-knit family; her father was a clergyman and she six brothers and one sister.  She began writing in her teens. They lived in the village Steventon in Hampshire England until 1801 when they moved to Bath.  Then 4 years later they moved back to Hampshire.  In 1809 right up until the end of her life she lived in a 17th century house in Chawton, Hampshire.  Today the house is a small private museum run by the Jan Austen's Memorial Trust.  She wrote Emma, Mansfield Park and Persuasion while she was living there.

Jane never married nor had any children.  She always published her work anonymously so she never really became famous until after her death. Most of her books received only a few published reviews and never became bestsellers.  Her novels very fashionable among many people but the critics at the time preferred the works of Charles Dickens and George Eliot.

More recently her novels have been the focus on many adaptations.  The first film adaptation was the 1940 film Pride and Prejudice starring Laurence Olivier and Greer Garson.  Even more recently 1995 saw a great wave of Austen adaptations appear.  First was the Ang Lee's film of Sense and Sensibility.  The screen writer and actress Emma Thompson won an Academy Award.  Then there was a very popular miniseries by the BBC called Pride and Prejudice, which stared Jennifer Ehle and Colin Firth.

Today Jane Austen is revered as much as any literary figure in history. She is that popular that there are tours where you can go and see the real inspirations and locations from her novels.  The movie locations of where they filmed Sense and Sensibility are also part of the tour and you can even visit the homes that she once lived in. There are many societies honouring the author and preserving manuscripts, letters and memorabilia of Jane and her family.  Fans can join these societies and receive newsletters and details of forthcoming events.

Kindle Sales Very Strong in December According to Reports

The market for electronic versions of books is growing. There are millions of people who have purchased books, such as romance books online. And so is the associated market for e-reader devices. The Amazon Kindle is so far the most popular e-reader device yet and according to all recent news reports, it's not going to give up on its popularity any time soon.

According to a report published by the Telegraph, American consumers have purchased over a million Kindle devices each week during the month of December. This includes sales of the Kindle, Kindle Touch and Kindle Fire. A breakdown of sales for each type of device was not available, however. Even with that, Amazon did release a statement saying that the Kindle Fire was its best-selling device. This isn't too surprising, considering the fact that analysts predicted that up to 5 million Kindle Fire devices will be sold during 2011.

The Kindle Fire tablet, which combines the features of a basic tablet PC and an e-reader, has remained a strong competitor for the Apple iPad. Some analysts believe that this is Amazon's attempt at entering the tablet market and getting the attention of consumers who are looking for a tablet PC, without the high price tag that the Apple iPad comes with, even if that means they would be giving up on some of the features offered by more advanced tablets. The Kindle Fire remains in 2nd position after the iPad when it comes to global sales of tablet PCs.

Independent authors, such as those that publish erotic eBooks are also happy about the sales of various models of the Kindle. The more people buy e-reader devices, the more potential buyers they have for their eBooks. Thanks to the Amazon Kindle store, which is a virtual book store, many readers who would have otherwise never known about these books can now purchase them.

More mainstream publishers, such as those that publish print versions of  Romance Novels are also setting their eyes on e-reader devices and their associated marketplaces. As demand for print editions of books goes down and sales of electronic content goes up, many publishers have released their titles in electronic format and have made them available in various online marketplaces. They can then be purchased by users of devices such as the Kindle and some other e-readers like the Kobo, Sony Reader and the Nook. As growth in the sales of digital books is continuing, plenty of publishers who may have been holding out on making their content available in digital format are now reconsidering their choices and making them available to those who read books on an e-reader, computer or smart phone.

Sales of Reading Materials for Mobile Devices Expected to Go Up

While it may be too soon to say that the traditional print book is "dead", one thing is certain is that readership of regular, printed books is going down, while people reading materials online has gone up in the past couple of years. This is something that was first noticed by the newspaper industry. Fewer people have started buying newspapers, which has even forced some of them to go out of business. The rest have resorted to making an electronic edition of the paper available online. Same goes for many magazines.

Electronic editions of books have been sold online for more than 15 years now. However, one thing that has prevented their growth is that unlike with news publications, few people found it comfortable to have to sit at their computer if they wanted to read a book. Readers of Romance Books, found it more comfortable to lie down on the couch, or to take the book with them to a park to read, instead of having to stay at home in front of a PC.

However, the growing popularity of mobile devices has changed all of that. Smart phones allow users to access all sorts of content, such as eBooks, videos and interactive games. There are now many smart phone users who use their devices to read various kinds of books. Tablet PCs or dedicated e-reader devices like the Apple iPad and the Amazon Kindle, have now also created an increased demand for electronic books that are used by consumers on mobile devices.

As a response to this, many websites that sell eBooks, such as electronic versions of erotic books, have now started providing a mobile version of their site, where users can purchase and download the books straight to their mobile device. Server side software can detect the type of device being used by the consumer and then deliver content in the right format.

This isn't limited to eBooks either. Online video rental sites have also set their sights on mobile users as well. And let's not forget the adult industry, which is one of the largest online business types. Many adult websites now have a mobile version that is adapted for users of devices such as the Apple iPhone or Android based tablets. This helps ensure that the website displays correctly in the browser and that any content offered for download will be compatible with the user's device. At the rate which mobile devices are now selling, many online content distribution providers are now creating a mobile version of their website to cash in on the millions of dollars that mobile users spend on content each year.

A Best Guide To Thesis Proposal Writing

Writing a Thesis Proposal

The thesis proposal is the initial and most significant step that aids with jumping up the ladder of the entire thesis process. Thesis proposal writing is a skill in itself, and with the aim of capturing the attention of your advisors, the thesis proposal must be thorough, detailed, and convincing enough so that your advisors will approve your concept. Besides outlining your research approach and your focal academic principle, it is also an article simply meant to convince.

Writing a thesis proposal calls for merging an influential argument, engaging to the exceptional interests and awareness of the advisors, and laying out an organized and rational strategy that will support the thesis topic that you have chosen. The proposal itself is repeatedly a lengthy document and may take months to put in order, and if the proposal is not just right and your assumptions not beached in ample research, you might as well be sent back to the drawing board to start with the scratch.

Tips for Preparing a Thesis Proposal

Figures: The entire purpose of adding figures into your thesis proposal is to clarify your thinking. Thesis proposals often contain figures from other article that might as well relate to your topic. You may also want to incorporate graphs into your thesis proposal.
Grammar/spelling typos: Poor grammar and spelling mistakes drag the reader away from the actual content of what you have written. The reader then focuses more on the mistakes thus missing out on the important points of what is written. In order to avoid grammatical mistakes, avoid incorporating long sentences into the thesis proposal. Read the proposal several times before submitting the final draft.
What is a Thesis Proposal?

A thesis proposal is a document that proposes a study thesis paper that is further to be written in future. A thesis proposal addresses a research problem. This identified problem is framed as a research question for which the thesis will offer an answer or solution to when completed.

How to differentiate between a thesis and a thesis proposal?

A thesis proposal is by and large written in the present and future tense. On the contrary, a thesis is at all times written in past tense.

Why Write a Thesis Proposal?

The proposal for a thesis is basically an outline of the research that one shall perform in future. It can be thought of like an architectural blueprint for building a house; the clearer the plan, the more well-timed and efficient the finishing point of the house. Additionally, the clearer the thesis proposal, the more probable it is that it will be accepted, with a high prospect that the final thesis paper will also be accepted.

Objective of a Thesis Proposal

The central purpose of a thesis proposal is to persuade your thesis supervisor or the thesis coordinator that the thesis you propose meets the criteria set, and therefore has a good chance of resulting in an interesting and relevant study. Therefore, a thesis proposal that is only based on a general and vague notion that the selected theme may be suitable for a master's thesis will almost certainly result in a rejection of the proposal.

Originality

A thesis is an integral part of any useful degree and thus makes it complete and worthwhile. Your work will make a considerable contribution to the field that you wish to work upon. For this reason, the research work ought to fulfill either of the following:

It provides evidence to support a concept, model, fact or theory.
It provides additional data or information, a new and improved solution, research methodology or the procedure for analyzing the data gathered.
It falls out as a new, better and improved concept, model or theory.
Structure of a Thesis Proposal

A thesis proposal usually contains some formulation of the following sections:

Title page: Contains a short, descriptive heading of the proposed thesis project and author, institution, department, research mentor, mentor's institution, and date of delivery.
Abstract: This is a brief summary of your thesis proposal and should present a brief introduction to the issue that you are going to address. Its word count should not exceed 200 words.
Table of contents: This lists all headings and subheadings with page number.
Introduction: This section ought to gain reasonable attention of the reader as it sets the context for your proposed research work. Explain your topic while taking it down from a broad picture to your specific area of research.
Statement of the research question/thesis statement: This is usually known as the problem definition stage. This statement might be written in the form of a hypothesis statement, research statement, research objective, or project statement.
Literature review: To concisely describe those studies those have previously been published that support your particular research problem.

How To Write a Successful Assistance to Firefighters Act Grant Proposal

How will you be guaranteed for Assistance to Firefighter Grant by FEMA?

First off, a successful grant proposal has to have three main elements to win you that award. There is nothing more frustrating than spending a great amount of time writing a narrative that does not meet their standards. You can hire a professional writer to do all of the work for you and hope that they can get it right the first time with the amount of money you will spend on their services. However and whoever does your proposal definitely needs the following elements to achieve your goal:

A great narrative targeting your community and the population in detail.

The difficult situation (problem) you are encountering in your community or targeted population that describes an immediate call to action.

A fully detailed solution to end the problem and how the grant will help.

Make sure you dot your I's and cross your T's.

When your narrative is not concise and to the point, the reviewer may become discouraged and uninterested. When reviewing your proposal, the reader may become confused and unclear to what your narrative is truly asking for. Never ramble on with your sentences and steer away from the main topic. A well-organized proposal is one that the viewer can measure, interpret and understand.

What can you do to help ensure a successful proposal?

Brainstorm with members of your community such as parents, school employees, political leaders and anyone else you think that can help you solve the problem you are facing to protect your community. This will form a support group that affects everyone and the ideas of solutions will pour in to help your proposal become successful.

Did you say deadlines?

Keep a close eye on the deadlines and do not wait until the last minute to start your proposal. Getting started early on your narrative proposal will only help beat the deadlines. Your grant only runs for a time limit to complete your solution. However, depending on how big the project is, you will not complete the project with the funds you are granted and may need another grant. If for any reason, your proposal is rejected, try and try again. Revise your proposal to make it sell and strengthen the weaker areas.

Why was your proposal rejected?

Some of you who have been rejected before may see responses that read "Your fire department's proposals don't match our priorities" and "Your department isn't located in the geographic area we fund". These are common reasons for the rejected proposal. Make sure you follow the format that they require. Do not be vague and unclear of what you are proposing. Be realistic and ask for the amount that is only needed for your solution to the problem. Sometimes they may reject you because they don't have you in their database, but sell yourself and the importance in your proposal to avoid this rejection. Your narrative should stress the urgency of your problem and solution. As I stated before, avoid deadlines and prove that if you receive the grant, you can complete the project in time.

What should you do once you receive the decision?

No matter what the decision is, be thankful you were heard and given the opportunity for a grant. Always thank everyone involved from your support team to the grant committee. This will let everyone know that you are thankful and humble. This will also secure a welcome mat the next time you submit your proposal.

I want to conclude this article by saying good luck on your grant proposals. I would also like to thank you all for risking your lives for our communities.

Avoid use of flowery language and cute lines. Relevance to the subject matter should be the highlight.

2)      Active Voice: Its far more interesting to read through content written to address the reader directly rather than skimming through immense amount of technical jargon.  Very often the personality of the writer reflects through the usages and phrases employed.

3)      Interesting Title: Needless to say the title is the deciding factor for turning the particular page or site into a high traffic one. Again, it's best not to beat around the bush by employing complicated headings. The title should convey at just one glance the gist of the matter lying below. In recent  times, the use of numbers along with the heading like" 5 ways to combat loneliness" can assure the reader of a short yet conclusive' read ‘ahead.

4)      Use Paragraphs and Subheadings: Try not to overcrowd information into a single chunky paragraph, instead split data into appropriate paragraphs or list them under numbers or bullets. This makes it easier for the reader to skim through the information quickly yet understand it thoroughly. Such a strategy was adopted after arriving at the conclusion that more than 75% of readers on the net scan through the data rather than read it.

5)      One Idea per Paragraph: Even distribution of ideas is again a good way to get the reader to scan the entire page or article. Very few have the time or patience to skim through endless paragraphs laden with infinite information.

Besides thesetips to website content writing, an important point worth mentioning is the inverted pyramid strategy, i.e. to convey the core information initially in the first paragraph and henceforth expand on it in the rest of the document. It's also advisable to use links within paragraphs indicating to the reader further information that can be accessed regarding the same topic. Error- free content is a treat to before a reader's eyes, therefore particular care should be taken to proof read work before portraying on the net.

Website content writing should strictly adhere to the fact that people read a lot less on the net and therefore cut down content to at least 50% of normal print

A Best Guide To Conclusion Writing For Science Fair Project

Instructions on Writing a Conclusion for a Science Fair Project

Beginning with the conclusion of a science project, you have to enclose the results of your experiment in one or two sentences. This does not mean that the sentences have to involve the statistical data but it should have to demonstrate and compare various control groups. For example, sodium is more reactive metal than iron. You can also rationalize your results by giving logical examples based on your experiment.
Give a brief review of your hypothesis that you have created in the beginning of your experiment. Remember, the experiment you conduct should be designed in a way that it allows you to see whether the results of your experiment supports the hypothesis or not.
It is also important to identify any issue in conclusion section that you encountered in your experiment. Briefly discuss the issue or issues and try to enclose the ways you can adopt to fix them in future.
Write some more queries you can use in future studies regarding the same topic. These questions might include entirely a different question on a similar topic or any other dependent or independent variable to investigate or other experiments to try on the same topic.
Researching a Science Fair Project
Getting engaged into research is a long time commitment. Especially for science fair projects, you create a hypothesis and do an experiment. You do the experiment second time to compare the findings for your outcomes. Results are being recorded and in the end, it comes to write the final conclusion. The conclusion of a science project needs to be simple, focused and precise. It should be the answer to the hypothesis you created in the beginning.

Key Points to Remember
While writing the conclusion of a science project, important points to keep in mind include:

Is there any difference in the results when you repeated your experiment second time?
If it is so, then why there are differences?
